Red Fleece Cashmere Cable Sweater // One in Every Color

Brooks Brothers Red Fleece Cable Knit Cashmere Sweater-15.jpg

You know how they say, “If the shoe fits, buy it in every color”? Well that philosophy applies to sweaters too. Red Fleece gifted me this sweater for a Valentine’s Day shoot (see here) and I’ve been reaching for it and raving about it to friends ever since. (Not joking – my best friend Paige now owns this sweater in red and tan!)

As a lifelong lover of Brooks Brothers, it’s a real pinch me moment to work with their Red Fleece label to style this gorgeous, high quality cashmere sweater four ways for spring and summer. Red Fleece’s classic-with-a-twist collection is a more affordable price point than Brooks Brother’s main collection while somehow still offering the same amazing quality BB is known for. Downy soft, pill free and better quality than some of the cashmeres I own that were 3x the price, you cannot go wrong with this wonderful 4 season closet staple.

A cashmere cable knit sweater is one of my top wardrobe staples and I had been on the hunt for one that could be styled in a multitude of ways for every season and occasion. For me, it’s all about fiber content and cut. Many high-street stores market “affordable cashmere” but most cannot deliver that heavenly soft texture at such low price points. I don’t know how they do it but Red Fleece’s cashmere feels like a $400-500 sweater but rings in at under $200. Additionally, they got the cut of this sweater just right – it skims the body perfectly so you can wear it on it’s own, yet is just loose enough to fit a button-down underneath without pulling at the cables. (I sized up from an XS to a small for this type of fit!) Similarly, the crewneck is just wide enough to lay nicely with a collar, and of course it drapes beautifully over your shoulders. Check! Check! Check! Check!

With all that fanfare, this is how I’ll be wearing this classic cashmere sweater all spring and summer.

There is nothing revolutionary about a cashmere + button-down combo, but I had to start with this classic pairing which works year-round and can transition seasons in an instant with a change of shoes. Leather or velvet loafers in the fall/winter and espadrilles/fun ballet flats in the spring/summer are my go-to pairings. (Just keep the look balanced by wearing closed toe shoes in the summertime – this isn’t the moment for flip flops.) Grab a whimsical straw bag and you’re good to go!

We all know that even when it’s 80 degrees outside office air-conditioning can give you a chill. A classic shift dress (in a happy pastel tweed) is perfect for summer work wardrobes and by adding a cashmere sweater over the shoulders you’ll be ready to bounce between breakfast meetings al fresco and the boardroom. I find that draping a sweater over my shoulders often provides just enough warmth to balance bare arms in overly air conditioned offices.

I love the look of the sweaters with shorts for mild days, and this sweater is cut close enough to the body to tuck into shorts, skirts and high-waisted pants. Denim shorts are always an option, but I like to elevate the look by pairing the sweater with structured, high-waisted shorts. Pointy toed flats further elongate your legs especially when in the same hue as the shorts.

If you reserved cashmere sweaters for cold weather in the past you can easily incorporate them into your summer wardrobe by pairing it with bright white bottoms, which makes this staple instantly summery. (Think black and white, navy and white or red and white, even chocolate and white!) Add fun accessories to further reinforce the summery feel. I love accessorizing with statement sandals like these with a bow on the toe and a bright caned bag, or a classic canvas tote and puppy!

You simply cannot go wrong with this sweater. I brought the heather blue version with me to Portugal and I’ve used it for everything from a bathing suit coverup to keeping out the evening chill after the sun sets. It’s a special piece at a great value that you’ll love for years to come!

xx, Stacie
