Just a short drive up the coast, Kennebunkport is a favorite getaway in all seasons. While we usually come up just for an afternoon, this was my first time spending the night in years and I was thrilled to be invited by Auberge Hotels to experience a weekend at The White Barn Inn. This charming country inn has been welcoming guests for over 150 years, and recently got a chic update from Jenny Wolf Interiors. The weekend we visited, New England was expecting one of the biggest blizzards in decades and the Inn was the perfect cozy place to hide away while it snowed outside.
We stayed in the Loft Suite, which includes a fireplace, giant soaking tub and terrace, and moments after dropping our bags we heard a knock on the door and were surprised by the bar manager who had created two beautiful cocktails and the most jaw dropping lobster roll covered in truffles and caviar. (It definitely ruined all other lobster rolls for me.)
Our first night we had dinner in The Barn, which is hands down my favorite restaurant in all of New England. I love the contrast of fine dining in a rustic barn setting, complete with a giant American flag hung from the rafters, live piano music, and a beautiful picture window that frames a stunning seasonal vignette. The White Barn enjoys the rare accolade of being awarded both the AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star endorsements – both very well deserved. From the lobster tagliatelle to the venison every bite was delicious.
In the morning simple pleasures were the order of the day: from hot coffee and croissants delivered in a basket to our doorstep, a late brunch, time spent playing games and reading by the fire as snow fell outside, and a very chilly jaunt into town to see Dock Square covered in white. That afternoon I popped into the spa for a massage and it was easily the best of my life (ask for Jayleen!) before we changed and returned to The Barn for dinner. If you sit at the bar you can enjoy the ambiance of the fine dining restaurant and order from the casual “Little Barn” menu – a perfect combo in my book!
On our final morning the storm had passed and we enjoyed snowshoeing in the fresh powder and a final walk on the beach before heading home with warm chocolate chip cookies in hand, totally smitten with this charming inn and their kind staff. We loved it so much we’ve already been back to celebrate David’s birthday!

We have stayed at The White Barn Inn and have eaten many dinners there. Very nice place and within walking distance of tbe famous Square. New England has always been our favorite place to visit but The South is a close second with Biltmore Estate and staying at The Inn there is a really beautiful place especially in Summer. The Grove Park Inn is a must see also in Ashville. And a little further west the charming town of Highlands with The Olde Edward’s Inn is another must. Driving around to see all the beauty and waterfalls of the NC mountains is a real treat. The Blackberry Farm in TN is also a great place to just relax. Hope you and David get to see some of these places. ENJOY !
