Christmas at the Mayflower Inn

Last week we drove down to see family in New Jersey for a few days before Thanksgiving and a stop at The Mayflower Inn was the perfect way to break up the road trip. This was our third time at the Mayflower but our first trip during the Christmas season and it was no surprise the hotel was decorated to the nines! This year they partnered with NY-based designer Markarian on the Christmas decorations to beautiful effect. The front door, mantles, and great tree in the lobby were all festooned with whimsical bows, dried fruits, and baubles wrapped in Markarian’s signature silk taffeta. Just gorgeous!

It snowed the day we arrived transforming the property into a winter wonderland. We had snagged one of the last rooms available and stayed in a cottage that was next to the spa, but definitely prefer staying in the main inn during the wintertime so it’s easy to pop down to breakfast or dinner at their Garden Room restaurant without going outside.  (Also with a baby, staying in the same building that houses any hotel restaurant is key!) This trip was a short but relaxing stay with lots of incredible food - the beignets at breakfast! the duck at dinner! - punctuated with a few excursions to local antique stores. Local favorite Plain Goods has an amazing collection of antique treasures and I love their in-house clothing collection - especially for kids! They had a vintage fabric sale on and I was drooling over many of the bolts of vintage chintz for sale.
