What to Pack for a Week in England at Christmastime
Dresses
- Garnet pleats and ruffled straps make this dress so romantic with gold sandals. If you need even more drama, go for this stunning embellished gown, or this velvet dress is a beautiful option for under $300.
- My speckled oatmeal merino midi reminds me of The Row and is as comfortable as pajamas. (Under $300!) If you want a more fitted sweater dress, I love this chocolate brown version.
- Shimmery black with a twist front and deep V, this maxi dress was made for late nights in London. (This velvet number is a gorgeous alternative for under $250!)
- For off-the-shoulder drama I love this winter floral velvet dress, or this super versatile black jacquard option.
- The burgundy sequin dress I'm wearing above was a favorite last holiday season. I wore it at Cliveden for dinner, and again for Christmas at home. It's on sale now for under $150! (True to size.)
Coats
- The dramatic oversized collar on this crimson wool coat is pure Christmas card, belted over cozy knits or lace.
- For grand country house dinners, this plush shearling coat is old-world glamour (size down for a closer fit!). For a glamorous option under $400, I love this Tuckernuck coat.
- Metallic brocade makes this coat perfect for a fancy night caroling by the fire at Cliveden. This one (20% off with SF20) is a beautiful alternative that is ready to ship now.
- Swingy and olive, this waxed Highclere jacket gets better with age, especially over a Fair Isle knit.
- Plaid feels so festive on this double-breasted green peacoatis made for a cozy pub lunch. This burgundy plaid peacoat is also lovely.

Bottoms
- So comfortable I can do long-haul flights in them, these Japanese denim relaxed jeans are my current favorite.
- This lipstick red wool skirt adds instant holiday cheer to any outfit.

- Vintage-feeling and dark-washed, these high-rise straight jeans are perfect for cozy pub lunches with chunky knits.
- Crisp white wide-leg jeans in non-stretch organic cotton feel so fresh with winter knits.
Bags
- This red velvet evening bag with a beautiful sculptural tulip handle is an heirloom piece you'll cherish for years to come.
- Red flannel with brown leather straps makes this tote the coziest carry for Christmas shopping in Mayfair.
- Burgundy leather and a gold clasp make this Khaite crossbody such a polished pick for dinners in town.
- That sculptural gold clasp turns this black leather clutch into a little piece of jewelry for the ballet.
- I carry this acorn leather saddle bag constantly, and it ages to the most beautiful patina.
- Woven from Linton Tweed (the mill Chanel uses!), this frame clutch is so chic for holiday dinners.
- Platinum satin makes this little Mark Cross clutch the perfect partner for sequins and candlelight. (This sleek clutch is a great alternative for a little less.)
- Roomy enough for a laptop, this brown suede top handle bag (12% off with STACIE12) makes a chic carryall.
Shoes
- Truly the most perfect heels ever created, these black suede pumps are so comfortable I have them in six colors.
- Under $300, these pointed-toe suede knee-high boots are so comfortable and go from pub lunches to shopping in Mayfair. (Of you want a pointed toe bootie, I love wearing these under long dresses or with wide leg denim.)
- Velvet in deep burgundy makes these pumps feel so festive for candlelit Christmas dinners.
- Crushed velvet and a sparkly ornament make these black heels perfect for nights out from September through February. Other embellished options include these pearl pumps and these fun mules. For a satin style that works for everyday try these cap toe slingbacks.
- My go-to gold strappy heels go with every holiday party look, from sequins to jacquard.
- Shearling trim and a lug sole make these suede loafers cozy for chilly countryside strolls.
- Cognac suede penny loafers are made for Mayfair shopping days and cozy pub lunches by the fire.
- Padding around a country house calls for these bronze suede shearling clogs by the fire.
- Sarah Flint's bestselling suede zip booties have a cushioned insole for long days exploring villages.

Accessories
- Burberry's red check cashmere scarf is the most classic English accessory you could tuck into your suitcase.
- The gold knot buckle on this leather belt (20% off with SF20) adds so much to a simple sweater dress.
- I wore this Fair Isle cashmere beanie nonstop last winter, and it makes neutral looks feel so special.
- Muted tartan makes this Johnstons of Elgin cashmere stole the coziest layer over any coat.
- Havana tortoiseshell sunglasses from Saint Laurent are a must for bright, crisp winter walks.
- Pin this crimson crystal brooch to the collar of your coat for instant holiday sparkle.
Travel Essentials
- Packing for a week across the pond? This ribbed suitcase (20% off with STACIESM20) and carry-on (20% off with STACIESM20) are as chic as it gets. (This suitcase and carry-on are lightweight and give the same look for a fraction of the price.)
- Add a few packing cubes (20% off with STACIESM20) to keep small items organized, I also own and love these. (I love these for underwear, scarves and hats, and my toddler's clothes!)
- For hair, I pack the T3 dual voltage styler and the T3 SinglePass StyleMax flat iron. Since the styler is dual voltage, all you need in England is a plug adapter.
- I love these easy-to-clean pebbled leather pouches. Two sizes, one for toiletries and one for beauty essentials.
- A mulberry silk sleep mask in chocolate brown is a must for the overnight flight.

A Magical Week in England at Christmastime
7 Nights in London, Buckinghamshire & the Cotswolds
There's nothing quite like England at Christmas. From London's glittering streets and beautifully decorated grand hotels to the roaring fires, charming villages, and rolling hills of the English countryside, it's a destination that feels especially magical during the holidays. I visit England at least once or twice a year, and after spending the most wonderful Christmas week exploring some of my favorite places in 2025, I've put together what I think is the perfect seven-night trip for you, with loads of packing inspiration, of course!
My ideal trip combines three nights in London for Christmas shopping, festive dining, and a little culture, followed by two nights at the magnificent Cliveden House, and finally two nights tucked away in a charming Cotswolds inn. Along the way, I've included my favorite places to stay, eat, and shop, as well as what I'd pack for every occasion, from long countryside walks to glamorous evenings out.

Day 1-3: London
Three nights at Brown’s Hotel, Mayfair
London truly pulls out all the stops at Christmastime, and I can't imagine a better place to begin the trip than Mayfair. We stayed at Brown’s Hotel, which has become one of my favorite London addresses thanks to its impeccable service, beautiful interiors, and wonderful location. The hotel is especially lovely during the holidays, with lush garlands, twinkling lights, and a warmth that makes returning after a day of exploring feel like coming home. It's also incredibly convenient for exploring on foot, even with a stroller!

Christmas Shopping in Mayfair
Spend your days Christmas shopping along Bond Street, admiring the elaborate storefront displays, and visiting some of London's most iconic shops. Liberty is an absolute must during the holidays, and I never miss Fortnum & Mason for its beautiful Christmas decorations, specialty foods, and fabulous gifts. Burlington Arcade is another favorite for beautiful cashmere, jewelry, and British accessories, while Smythson, Me+Em, and Selfridges are always worth a visit.
Shop the look: shearling coat · dress · velvet bag · strappy heels · brooch · diamond drop earrings · dome ring
The Nutcracker at The Royal Ballet
I'd also make time for a festive evening at the Royal Ballet to see The Nutcracker. There's something so special about dressing up for an evening at the theater during the holidays, and the whole experience feels like stepping into another era.
Shop the look: shearling coat · maxi dress · clutch · pumps · tennis bracelet · studs
Out on the Town
For dining, I love starting the day with a leisurely breakfast at Charlie’s at Brown’s, followed by a little shopping and perhaps pastries at Pasticceria Marchesi (or Birley if you head to Chelsea!). In the evening, Donovan’s Bar is wonderfully atmospheric for a cocktail, and Bar des Prés is one of my favorite spots for dinner. Dante at Claridge's is such a fun, glamorous vibe, and you have to get the famous chicken alla diavola. London also has exceptional Indian food, and Gymkhana (down the street from Brown’s!) and BiBi are two restaurants we return to again and again.
Fashion lovers shouldn't miss Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. The exhibition celebrates the late Queen's wardrobe and style throughout her life, and it has been so popular that it was extended through April 18, 2027. Book tickets in advance!
What to pack: This is the part of the trip to have fun with festive dressing! Think a comfortable sweater dress and beautiful coat for Christmas shopping, cashmere sweater dresses with tall suede boots for daytime, and a fabulous velvet or jacquard dress for dinner or the ballet. A polished wool coat and comfortable but elegant walking shoes are essentials.
Shop the look: tuxedo dress · one-shoulder top · jacquard trousers · velvet heels · clutch · hoops
Day 4-5: Buckinghamshire
Two nights at Cliveden House
After a few busy days in London, I love the idea of escaping to the countryside for a completely different pace. Cliveden House is one of England's most magnificent country house hotels, with more than 350 years of history and the kind of grand interiors that transport you to another time. Once home to the Astor family and host to royalty, politicians, and artists, the estate is full of fascinating stories, but what I love most is how comfortable and welcoming it feels despite its grandeur.
One of the highlights of any stay is dinner at Cliveden. The magnificent French Dining Room, with its gilded details and ornate paneling, is a wonderful excuse to dress up. I particularly love that you can enjoy such an elegant evening and then simply wander upstairs to your room afterward. We developed a rather indulgent tradition of ordering chocolate mousse to enjoy in our pajamas before bed!
Shop the look: brocade coat · white shirt · sequin skirt · strappy heels · satin clutch · drop earrings
Caroling at Cliveden House
At Christmas, the house is especially beautiful, with enormous trees, garlands draped around the entrance, and festive details throughout its historic rooms. Local school choirs come to carol at Cliveden throughout the season, and it is the perfect way to celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas!
Shop the look: Barbour · cable-knit turtleneck · jeans · cashmere scarf · crossbody · shearling loafers · drop earrings
A Country Walk at Cliveden House
I'd resist the temptation to overplan these two days. Cliveden is a destination in itself, and the real pleasure is having time to enjoy the beautiful house, explore the grounds, and slow down. We spent our days lingering over breakfast overlooking the gardens, reading by the fire, and taking long walks around the estate. The grounds are spectacular, even in winter, and there's something wonderful about bundling up in your warmest coat and heading out for a walk before returning to the house for tea.
What to pack: Old-world country house glamour! I'd bring an elegant black coat, a beautiful dress and heels for dinner, and cozy cable-knit sweaters, jeans, and a classic waxed jacket for exploring the estate. A handsome pair of boots and a cashmere scarf will come in handy for winter walks.
Shop the look: coat · Fair Isle sweater · white jeans · suede booties · suede bag (12% off with STACIE12) · tartan scarf · sunglasses · earrings · suitcase (20% off with STACIESM20)
Day 6-7: The Cotswolds
Two nights at The Fox at Oddington
For the final two nights, head to the Cotswolds, where honey-colored stone cottages, winding country lanes, and cozy pubs make everything feel straight out of a Christmas storybook. My pick is The Fox at Oddington, a beautifully restored 19th-century village inn that's part of the Daylesford Stays collection.
The Fox is the kind of place I find myself dreaming about long after we've checked out. The rooms are decorated with beautiful natural linens, antique-inspired furnishings, and subtle equestrian touches, while the downstairs pub is filled with intimate little rooms and roaring fireplaces. We've been here three times and have loved every room we've stayed in.
Shop the look: peacoat · Fair Isle sweater · relaxed jeans · penny loafers · saddle bag · signet ring
Pub Lunch by the Fire at The Bell at Charlbury
One of the greatest pleasures of staying here is the food. The Fox restaurant sources ingredients from nearby Daylesford Organic Farm, and we've had some of our favorite meals in England at Daylesford properties, and The Bell at Charlbury (another Daylesford property) is one of my favorite village pub's for a cozy meal. There's nothing better than a leisurely breakfast beside the fire or a cozy dinner after a day exploring the countryside.
Be sure to visit Daylesford Organic Farm, which is close enough to reach on foot from The Fox. (It is a walk home if you're carrying groceries!) The farm shop is a wonderful destination for specialty foods, beautiful homewares, gifts, and delicious things to bring home. I love making an afternoon of it, enjoying coffee, browsing the shop, and picking up a few treats.
The Fox is also a perfect base for visiting Stow-on-the-Wold, one of my favorite Cotswolds villages for antiquing and shopping. I always make a point to visit Christopher Clarke Antiques for wonderful British campaign furniture and the smattering of antique shops filled with treasures. If you're hungry, The Old Butcher is a favorite for lunch.
End your days back at The Fox, with a glass of wine by the fire and a delicious dinner downstairs. After the excitement of London and the grandeur of Cliveden, it's the perfect cozy ending to a Christmas week in England. And if you want another grand house to tour, I recommend Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill!
What to pack: This is where classic English country style really shines. I'd bring Fair Isle sweaters, beautiful wool coats, corduroy or denim, suede loafers, and a plaid scarf or two. A pair of practical boots is essential for countryside walks, and a cozy cashmere sweater is just right for an afternoon spent beside the fire.
A Few Final Tips
I love this itinerary because it offers three wonderfully different sides of England at Christmas without trying to squeeze too much into one week. You'll experience the excitement and glamour of London, the elegance of a historic country house, and the cozy charm of village life in the Cotswolds.
I'd plan to spend the first three nights in London without a car, then arrange a rental car or private driver for the countryside portion of the trip. Book the hotels and any special experiences, particularly The Nutcracker and popular restaurants, well in advance.
And when it comes to packing, my favorite approach is to build a wardrobe around versatile, beautiful layers that feel appropriate for the setting. A great coat, a few wonderful knits, boots you can walk in, and one or two special evening looks will take you a long way.
I hope this guide inspires you to experience the magic of an English Christmas for yourself. It's one of those trips that's every bit as wonderful as you imagine, and perhaps even more so!
