Avignon
Travel Guide
Avignon is an excellent base for exploring the surrounding Provence region, and has one of the best hotels in the world, if you're into interior design. The towns around Avignon host some of the best antique markets (especially the quarterly trade brocante).
Avignon is a medieval trading town, the first on the east bank of the Rhone River. The town linked France to the rest of the Mediterranean world via the Pont Saint-Bénézet Bridge and was host to the papacy for several decades. The Papal Palace is worth a visit. Across the street is the historic cardinal's mansion, which is now La Mirande Hotel.
La Mirande captured my heart for its exquisitely decorated interiors and you can expect a perfect time when you book here. You can read more about La Mirande in the travel diaries linked below.
The Avignon International Brocante is a pop-up antique fair that is widely regarded as the ultimate source for European antiques, drawing antique dealers from all over the world to buy for their shops and clients.
