25 Opulent Finds to Kick Off the Festive Season

There’s something about the richness of velvet, the shimmer of metallic threads, and the intricate beauty of jacquard and brocade that makes getting dressed this time of year feel especially magical. I’ve been finding the most extraordinary pieces lately, from tapestry-inspired coats and jewel-toned dresses to beautifully embellished accessories that look like little works of art. Many have a wonderfully old-world glamour about them, and I especially love finding pieces that feel like heirlooms but can be dressed down with jeans and cashmere for everyday. With holiday invitations filling the calendar, now is the time to indulge in a little opulence! One word of warning: so many of these gorgeous finds are already selling quickly, so if something catches your eye, don’t wait too long to make it yours!

  • The knot detail at the waist of this jade floral-jacquard satin midi is even prettier in person, and the off-shoulder neckline feels so elegant. (I ordered the FR 36, but could have sized down to the 34.) I wore it with my go-to gold strappy heels and a Dries Van Noten beaded bag for a special dinner at La Goulue on the UES, but could be an unexpected look for a holiday dinner party!
  • This velvet lace dress looks way more expensive than the price tag, and it's going fast! I'm also tempted by this sequin dress, which reminds me of Oscar de la Renta for a fraction of the price.
  • Sleeveless and beautifully fitted, this jacquard dress mixes purple, ochre, and teal florals in the most artful way. It's a true showstopper for a cocktail wedding or holiday party, so keep the rest minimal.
  • This midi dress is the answer to "But what will I wear?" now through February. Perfect for Thanksgiving, dinner parties, or even wear it to the office! (This draped neck top in the same print also feels festive without trying too hard.)
  • Garnet red and finely pleated, this dress has ruffled straps and ruffle trim tracing the bodice and waist. It's so romantic for a holiday dinner party with velvet heels, or for Valentine's Day with gold sandals.
  • This evergreen jacquard coat is a dress-it-up or dress-it-down stunner for holiday events. Gorgeous over a cocktail dress, or keep things simple with a black turtleneck, trousers and these statement earrings. (Gorgeous!)
  • This black velvet dress is under $250 and has the most flattering neckline, perfect for showing off a necklace. And it's available in petite, regular and tall too!
  • I just got this silk dupioni maxi skirt (15% off with STACIE15) and it feels so elegant for black tie. Tuck in a fine-knit sweater and pendant necklace for Christmas Eve, or the matching top (15% off with STACIE15) for a gala.
  • This metallic jacquard coat (20% off with SF20) is so versatile. Throw it over a cream turtleneck and jeans, or pair with a silk blouse and high-waisted trousers.
  • This black and white shift dress (under $250!) with faux fur trim feels very Holly Golightly. Easy to wear with black velvet flats, or add a cashmere turtleneck and tights for extra warmth.
  • I've owned this little jacquard fabric bag for years, and love that it's inspired by 18th-century verdure tapestries. Plus it's moody palette of black, navy and gold goes with so many outfits, and it's perfectly packable for travel! (Seen here.)
  • This chic little jacket is the equivalent of wearing tinsel, and looks equally amazing dressed down with jeans, or up with an LBD!
  • Dusty rose velvet and a sweet frame shape make this clutch feel so ladylike. The top handle is easy to carry at a cocktail party, and the soft pink is so pretty against burgundy, black, or emerald.
  • This crinkled metallic gold blazer has a nipped waist and little peplum that feel so feminine. Button it up as a top with black velvet trousers for New Year's Eve, or toss it over my favorite $110 slip dress for a holiday party. (Would be nice with this velvet clutch too!)
  • Black-tie invitation on the calendar? This embroidered gown pairs a gold floral embroidered bodice with tiers of floaty black silk. It's a true showstopper, especially when you arrive at the event wearing this shearling coat. Swoon!
  • Under $250 and so rich-looking, this chenille jacquard shift dress has a tapestry of birds and florals in gold and soft blue. The stand collar is timeless and so flattering. Try it with tights and velvet flats for Thanksgiving, or heels for a party.
  • Clustered flecks of gold jacquard and a crystal buckle make these Hangisi ballet flats (a collaboration with Emilia Wickstead!) feel like jewelry for your feet. Dress them up with a velvet skirt for a holiday dinner, or down with cropped jeans and cashmere.
  • Wine-colored and covered in tiny beads, this sheer embellished top with beaded trim feels like a modern take on a vintage evening cardigan. Layer it over a black camisole with tailored trousers for holiday parties, or with jeans for a festive dinner out.
  • Dries Van Noten's longline jacquard coat is covered in ornate Art Deco embroidery with metallic threads that give it so much dimension. It's a true heirloom coat, gorgeous over a crisp button-down and trousers or a black evening dress.
  • Burnout satin with an asymmetric fringe hem makes this fringe top such a fun party piece. Tuck the front into black velvet trousers for a holiday party, or over a satin skirt for New Year's Eve dancing.
  • I always love poking around Nordstrom Rack for discounted designer finds. Sizing is always limited, but this and this are both stunning if they have your size!
  • Zara's brown jacquard jacket has the richness of a designer piece. Cinch it with a satin fringe belt over wide-leg trousers for a holiday dinner, or layer it over a turtleneck and jeans on weekends.
  • The varied sequins on this dress look so expensive. Pair with simple accessories to let the dress shine. Or opt for this sequin top and matching skirt. I love that the pieces can be styled together or separately for a variety of holiday looks!
  • Swap your everyday wool coat for this textured coat in silvery gray and gold. The collarless shape looks so cool over a perfect white tee (15% off with stacie15), straight jeans (my current favorite!) and colorful flats. Or, it makes a slip dress feel even more special for a holiday party.
