Thank you to Saks Fifth Avenue for sponsoring this post!
It’s been a couple weeks since we welcomed Baby Flinner, and I’m having fun getting dressed in regular clothes again! Longtime readers will know that I’m always looking to build a wardrobe of timeless, classic pieces that can be styled in myriad ways. And now more than ever, it’s my priority to build a wardrobe full of high quality staples that make getting dressed easy–ensuring I can throw together an outfit quickly that makes me look and feel my best!
Saks Fifth Avenue has been a longtime favorite destination for timeless wardrobe staples that are worth the investment from some of my favorite designer brands like Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Nili Lotan, and Gucci. Whether I’m looking for a great pair of denim, a chic jacket, or a beautiful pair of shoes, Saks is one of the first places I shop.
If you’re looking to refresh your closet, here are my top 3 tips for building your wardrobe this winter:
- Invest in wardrobe staples you can wear over and over, like a great pair of denim or a chic sweater. Finding a great pair of jeans to flatter my figure was my number one wardrobe goal after having a baby, and wow I can’t believe how great I feel in these Agolde jeans! The high waisted silhouette hugs your waist without being constricting, and the straight cut leg is a super flattering take on the relaxed jean trend. These jeans will be the foundation of many looks for the months to come, whether I wear them with booties or my Gucci loafers in winter or pointed toe flats or slingbacks as temperatures rise. Of course, a cream turtleneck sweater like this one from Polo Ralph Lauren is a staple in any wardrobe, perfect for layering under coats and jackets now, or topping off a skirt and heels later.
- Opt for light or neutral layers that can carry you into spring. As I look for new pieces to help transition my outfits from winter to spring I start leaning into lighter versions of my favorite hues: for example opting for light gray instead of charcoal, or pale pink instead of burgundy. This is especially helpful when shopping for blazers, jackets, or coats this time of year, as having outerwear in lighter colors will make getting dressed in those early spring days so much easier. I’ve sung the praises of the lady jacket before, and this one by Nili Lotan is a modern take on the feminine silhouette. The cream bouclé fabric is a three season wardrobe workhorse and looks fabulous whether styled with other winter whites, or jeans and a tee.
- If you’re looking to splurge on an investment piece, go for beautiful shoes, a bag, or a special piece of jewelry. Whenever I’m traveling in France of Italy, I always admire how the locals blend a mix of high and low when getting dressed, but the items Europeans always seem to invest in are a great pair of shoes, a beautiful bag, and their everyday jewelry. Bags and shoes are two items you can (and should!) wear repeatedly as the foundation of many outfits. I love the look of a kitten heel with denim and these slingbacks from Gianvito Rossi are a gorgeous neutral hue that will look equally great with denim now and sundresses this spring. Another category worth investing in is jewelry, whether a beautiful pair of pearl earrings, a charming pendant necklace or a classic tennis bracelet. (If you’re looking to add a bit of sparkle to your outfit this tennis bracelet is the perfect size (and an incredible price!))

Every piece is stunning and I love your tips and suggestions, Stacie!! Your mindfulness is such a help to all of us that adore your style and taste.
And can we talk more about your stunning upholstery!
Just gorgeous Stacie, and the clothing too!
Congratulations to you and David on Cam, and many blessings on his safe arrival intro the world.
This must be a joyful time in both families right now. Thank you for sharing his story of coming into
the world. I am not so sure I could do that without the delicious offerings of a pharmacy! No doubt it
was very inspiring to many on their own journey of pregnancy and preparing for childbirth.
So, my question is, and I hope it’s not silly, I am not really familiar with the term “Lady Jacket” which I have seen you use before? It’s such a pretty name! The other question is, you mentioned the cream boucle fabric could be three seasons of fashion, I am wondering which you feel are the three?
I love this Saks’s Winter tips collaboration! It’s a lovely collection, and I have already identified some must-haves!
In fact, I just bought a SAM puffer coat from them two weeks ago.
On a side note, I used to work for Pavilion Christophe, the French silver maker, my boutique was run by the actual family who started the company in France, and the daughter told me something about French fashion that still resonates with me to this day: it doesn’t matter if a French woman is high society, or a shop assistant, or perhaps has a job that is not so glamorous, the one thing they do, is, spend money on good shoes and handbags. Everything else after that is ok. I still think about that!
Thank you for ALL that you do!
XO,
Barbara
Apologies if this is a duplicate…my compute went a bit wonky yesterday….
Love this because I love winter dressing and love Sak’s, so congratulations on the collaboration!!
You are glowing!
Two questions, and I hope they are not silly: I am curious what exactly is defined as a “lady
jacket’? I have seen you use that term before, and I wasn’t sure what silhouette that is?
Secondly, I love the white. boucle jacket, and wondered what three seasons you mentioned, you
feel it wears best? It is just stunning!
Congratulations again to you and David, and both families, on Cam! Just scrumptious!
Beautiful. Congratulations on the birth of your son.
