David and I were reminiscing recently about how fun it was visiting Munich’s Hofbräuhaus on our world trip. A few days later he surprised me by planning a date night at home complete with Bavarian music, homemade pretzels, brats and Hofbräu beer by the fire. I couldn’t believe the response when I shared these photos on stories, I guess we’re all eager to find fun things to do while we’re stuck indoors this winter! So – as promised – here are the “ingredients” that go into planning a Bavarian-themed date night in your own home!
- 6 homemade soft pretzels (recipe here)
- 4 bratwurst
- 1 bag sauerkraut
- 2 types of gourmet mustard (we like spicy and whole grain)
- 1 jar cornichons
- beer (Hofbräu’s hefe weizen if you can find it – otherwise your favorite beer will do!)
- optional: themed decor like a checked tablecloth, and pint glasses
We made the pretzels together while listening to this Oktoberfest soundtrack and browned the bratwurst on the stovetop while the pretzels were baking. Arrange everything on a wooden cutting board or serving tray and – voila!
