First, every piece is hyper-customizable. Her site allows for easy metal selection (gold or silver) and a choice of gemstones so you can personalize the piece to have special meaning for you or your family. I own and love her Greenwich 4 Stone Earrings which look like a flower, and while I chose white topaz (my husband’s birthstone) for the whole thing each petal could be a different stone if you wanted which makes them perfect sentimental gift. Last year we gave my mom a birthstone necklace representing the birthdays in our family and it’s such a thoughtful gift!
On our visit, Haverhill walked me around her studio so I could see how she creates her pieces from initial design to sparkly finished product. After Haverhill designs a new piece, Tanya creates Cad renderings of Haverhill’s design for model making, which then feeds into a machine with a vat of bright green goo (!) which produces green resin models of the design so the team can test how they feel. Once the specs are perfect they’ll cast the piece in sterling silver or gold, and polish the casting to a beautiful shine before setting it with gemstones or diamonds. Every gem is custom cut and carefully inspected for quality and conforming to the exact dimensions required for each piece before the stones are set. Much of this work is so tiny, the team looks at the gems through a microscope like lens. Because every piece is made-to-order and perfect for personalizing with meaningful birthstones, I got to follow several pieces through this process in one day.
Perhaps the biggest treat of visiting Haverhill’s studio was seeing my own pair of diamond rosecliff earrings made before my very eyes. I always love factory tours to learn how things are made (for example, find a tour of one of Sarah Flint’s Italian factories here!) but it’s extra special to see a piece made for me in real time. It blew my mind to watch Mariah, the youngest member of Haverhill’s team, set the diamonds in my earrings, nudging each sparkly stone into position and then securing the prongs. Such a beautiful piece that I will treasure for decades to come!
It was such a dream to play with fine jewelry for a day! Thank you for the behind the scenes look at your business and beautiful brand Haverhill!
