Brand to Know: Mae New York
In the lazy haze of a summer afternoon, a package arrives on my doorstep. Little did I know that the dress inside has magic powers. When you put it on, you'll never have rain on the day of your picnic, your soufflé will never fall, and your hair is (almost) invincible against humidity. The fabric and fit happen to be perfect too.
Such is the feminine fantasy that is Mae New York. A relative newcomer on the fashion scene, founder Sarah Mae Ettinger launched her eponymous label, Mae, as a modern interpretation of 1960s glamour with a love of color and a focus on luxury construction and tailoring. Her second collection with the House of Scalamandré, features their iconic "coquina" fabric and landed just in time for summer fun. The painterly print features a beachcomber's dream of blue and white shells in a silhouette that defines easy summer glamour à la Jackie O. The fabric is so beautiful. Do I need to do a whole room in this print?!
Each Mae New York garment is made in New York City with MAE’s signature approach to manufacturing, which combines made-to-order and small batch production. (Read: the perfect place to shop to ensure you aren't twinning with anyone else at the party.) And Mae's tailoring really is exceptional. This dress is more beautifully made than the Oscar de la Renta dress I wore here. (Not to mention, a fraction of the price!) While this is my first Mae piece, kindly gifted by the brand, it most certainly won't be the last.
