20 of Fall’s Best Fair Isle Pieces
If you’ve been a reader for a while, you know how much I adore Fair Isle. The beautiful knit patterns are such an effortless way to add interest to an outfit, and somehow make even the simplest combination of a sweater and jeans feel complete. I love that Fair Isle can lean sporty, classic, romantic, or wonderfully sophisticated depending on the colors and silhouette, and I reach for mine constantly throughout fall and winter. From leaf peeping weekends to cozy days at home and ski trips in the Alps, these are the Fair Isle sweaters, cardigans, and accessories I’m loving most right now.
- I love the rich burgundy and pink tones in this splurgy Fair Isle sweater. The oversized fit is so cozy with these cords (the PERFECT fit!) and classic loafers. (The suede hobo I discovered in London is the perfect partner for chunky knits.)
- Gray and brown make this relaxed Fair Isle cardigan so easy to style. Throw it on over a crisp white shirt, jeans, and my most-worn brown casual boots, then top with a gray wrap coat and this stunning two-tone hobo bag.
- Lavender is such an unexpected Fair Isle color, and this hand-knit alpaca cardigan is dreamy. I wore it to the farmers market this past weekend with my trusty Barbour and these light wash jeans.
- Olive and rust tones on this Fair Isle turtleneck feel made for leaf peeping. Or pair it with a wool mini skirt and a gorgeous suede trench for a dinner date.
- Cropped and relaxed, this brown alpaca Fair Isle sweater looks so cool with these high-waisted jeans.
- Black and camel feel so striking on this sweater. It's lovely with my black wide-leg jeans (15% off with STACIE15), a cold-weather favorite that looks fantastic with black suede boots.
- If you're doing some serious hiking or skiing, it's nice to have a machine-washable option. I got this fair isle sweater 3 years ago and it's been on ski trips to Austria and Switzerland with me. (I'd pair with this parka for fall hikes!)
- Soft sage cashmere with lavender accents makes this turtleneck the dreamiest layer, from leaf peeping under a quilted jacket to the slopes to lounging at home with cream terry sweatpants (15% off with stacie15) and shearling clogs.
- A heritage Fair Isle turtleneck in oatmeal tones, gorgeous with cream denim and chocolate loafers. I also wore it with leather trousers (15% off with STACIE15) and these water-resistant flats (!) for a dinner date on a rainy night last week. (I love wearing this organic cotton tee (15% off with stacie15) under my boxier sweaters!)
- Icy blue against warm brown gives this cardigan such a charming, cabin-ready feel. Pair with light wash jeans and these coordinating cap-toe mules for an unexpectedly chic look.
- Puffy sleeves give this camel Alpine sweater a romantic twist. Pair it with wide-leg jeans or a midi skirt and boots to balance the volume.
- Ski trip ready, this navy Fair Isle turtleneck is so chic with black slim corduroy pants (15% off with STACIE15). I got this sweater in a size up when I was 7 months pregnant, and it was my favorite thing to wear during my final trimester. It easily covers the elastic on maternity pants!
- Alex Mill's chocolate cardigan has real shell buttons and all the vintage Fair Isle charm.
- Under $100 and so charming, this puff-sleeve cotton Fair Isle sweater is a lightweight option if autumn temps are still warm where you live.
- A matching Khaite scarf and beanie on sale?! (I wore the beanie nonstop last winter, seen in St. Moritz here.)
- Inspired by vintage après-ski style, this chocolate wool sweater with pops of sky blue feels instantly cozy. Pair it with these silk pants to turn a chunky Fair Isle into an unexpected evening look.
- &Daughter makes some of the most fun and unexpected color combinations, like this yellow Fair Isle cardigan or this slim-fit pink crewneck. I'd wear either with light wash denim and these brown Chelsea boots.
- Classic and collegiate, this tan Fair Isle cardigan is the heritage layer every fall wardrobe needs. The thin knit is great for layering under a blazer or wearing on its own when fall weather is still warm.
- If you love a classic yoke, this soft gray Fair Isle sweater is a timeless splurge, and Nili's sweaters are some of the best.
- This deep green Fair Isle sweater in cashmere silk looks so polished with jeans, wool trousers, or even a suede skirt! (I tied it around my waist here.)
- Belt this shawl-collar Fair Isle cardigan over a turtleneck and jeans for fireside evenings. (A great price for a wool-cotton blend!)
