Fall’s Best Handbags at Every Price Point

A beautiful bag is one of the easiest ways to elevate an outfit, and fall is my favorite season to indulge in rich textures, gorgeous leathers, and timeless silhouettes. This year, I'm especially drawn to buttery suedes in chocolate brown and burgundy, equestrian-inspired details, sculptural shapes, and a little playful fringe for evenings out. Whether you're looking for an everyday tote to carry with chunky knits and tailored coats, a polished shoulder bag you'll reach for year after year, or something special for the holiday season, I've rounded up the very best bags at every price point. From beautifully made investment pieces to affordable finds that look far more expensive than they are, these are the styles I think are truly worth adding to your wardrobe.

The Bags I’m Loving Most

  • One of my favorite recent outfits starts with this saddle bag in acorn vachetta leather, which ages to a beautiful patina. I have collected many bags from Mark Cross over the years, and it's one of my favorite under-the-radar luxury brands: beautifully made, endlessly wearable, and a better price point than many designer alternatives. You can easily dress it up or down, but I paired it with my quilted Barbour, an olive lambswool turtleneck, a Fair Isle scarf that I bought at Ann Mashburn on Madison Avenue, but can't find online ( this and this are similar!), high-waisted jeans, chic leopard ballet flats and my everyday diamond studs. I love that I can wear this outfit at home in New Hampshire or in
  • This shimmering beaded mini bag is only $138 and has tiers of fringe that sway beautifully on a night out or at holiday parties. I own this style, which is a bit pricier for the same look.
  • I loved this chic saddle bag when I saw it in London a few months ago. It converts from a top-handle bag to a crossbody and has the perfect level of polish to work with both casual and dressier looks.
  • If you love the woven leather of Bottega Veneta but not the price, this woven shoulder bag is a stunning and sculptural alternative.
  • This chic little bag is a dress-it-up, dress-it-down wardrobe workhorse. I have it in plum suede, but you can't go wrong with any color!
  • I love a good suede bag for fall, and this brown top handle bag (12% off with STACIE12) is my most-used carryall this season. I've worn it on repeat this month with earth tones, denim, and suede booties for workdays, dinner plans and weekends alike.
  • This bestselling bucket bag comes in a range of beautiful suedes, leathers and shearling. It's a fantastic everyday bag. I got the large size for my mom and think I need the olive for myself!
  • A true classic, this Bayswater in camel suede feels so right for fall. The signature Lock and belted sides that expand for extra space make it as practical as it is elegant. Lovely with a trench and loafers, from office to weekend.
  • I love the sculptural gold clasp on this slouchy Linton Tweed clutch, made from the same tweed mill Chanel uses for their iconic jackets. I just got one, and it's so chic tucked under your arm for dinners and holiday parties.

Investment Pieces Worth the Splurge

If you are ready to invest in a bag you’ll carry for years, these designer pieces feel both timeless and distinctive. Rich suedes and iconic house details make them easy to reach for from the first cool morning through the holidays.

  • A calf hair clutch like this instantly winterizes your favorite black dress. (This has a similar vibe for under $200.)
  • Chocolate brown with that iconic check tucked into the sides makes this small tote a forever bag. It's polished enough for work with trousers and a camel coat, and just as easy on weekends with jeans and a cozy knit.
  • This luxurious saddle bag with sculptural hardware walks the line between day and night with ease.
  • The braided handle on this smart little bag is a gorgeous equestrian-inspired touch, and it's a beautiful everyday bag that comes in 10 colors.
  • A versatile leather shoulder bag is so right for autumn, and this horsebit bag is one I reach for nonstop in the fall and winter months. For a classic shoulder bag under $500, this bag is such a smart buy. (I own both and highly recommend!)
  • Every wardrobe needs a true day-to-night bag, and this leather clutch is it. Carry it to daytime events, or tuck it inside a tote by day and pull it out for dinner. I have it in chocolate brown, but style icon Aerin Lauder has it in almost every delicious color.
  • Floral embroidery and swingy fringe give this canvas drawstring bag such a glamorous, bohemian touch. (Though this bag does the trick for under $400!)
  • Bottega's iconic Intrecciato weave makes this top handle bag absolutely stunning. It's a splurge, but I have it in leather and it's one of my most-worn everyday bags. The strap easily converts it from a top-handle bag to a shoulder bag to a crossbody, making it a great option for travel.
  • If you're ready to invest in one forever tote, this Loro Piana leather tote is worth the splurge. The cashmere lining (!) and gold hardware feel so quietly luxe, and it's roomy enough for the office, travel days and weekend errands. (This has a very similar feel for less!)
  • Burgundy is one of those colors suede does best, and the long tassels on this bucket bag make it so elegant for everyday. Carry it by the top handle or shoulder strap with jeans, a trench, and ballet flats. It will make the outfit.
  • If you love an equestrian vibe, this calfskin tote with its belted detail is timeless.

Mid-Range Favorites

This is where I find some of the best value for everyday bags. These styles feel elevated without being overly precious, making them ideal for workdays, weekends away, and holiday dinners.

  • Toffee suede with gold T-bar hardware makes this maxi hobo a perfect everyday bag. It reminds me of one of Chanel's bag, without the logos, and the removable zip pouch keeps essentials close. So good with chunky knits and cords. (If you're petite, consider this size.)
  • Weekend getaways call for this oversized suede tote in the richest dark brown. It's slouchy and artistic, with those sweet leaf-shaped handle details, and it fits everything for a few days away. (Made in Italy, too!)
  • The ruching on this supple suede tote is so soft, and the removable zip pouch keeps essentials handy.
  • This structured top-handle bag in a deep plum shade is the kind of timeless piece you'll carry for years. The sleek gold clasp keeps it minimal and elegant, perfect with tailored trousers and a long coat on workdays.
  • You guys sold out this bag (12% off with STACIE12) when I showed it last fall, and it's finally back in stock. But not for long!
  • Hand-knotted leather over a refined Art Deco shape makes this macramé pouch such a dreamy evening bag. Little metal beads at the base swing as you move. Lovely for dinners out with a silk dress or paired with velvet for holiday parties.
  • I've carried this cognac suede tote all over the world. A single magnetic fold changes its shape three ways, and the straps tuck completely inside for a clean top-handle look. It's polished at the office with trousers, then relaxed with jeans and a sweater on Saturday.
  • Leopard is a fall/winter classic, and this shoulder bag gives it a playful update with long black leather tassels. Or opt for a luxurious tote in leopard, which is very well priced for this much drama.
  • This slim pebbled leather tote is eternally practical, roomy enough to fit a laptop and a pair of shoes for full days on the go.
  • Holiday parties and fall weddings call for this dark brown satin pouch. The structured base and soft gathered top look so graceful, and the twisted rope strap and black tassels add a lovely finishing touch to a silk dress.

Under $400

There are so many pretty options at a lower price point this season. These are an easy way to add a little texture or sparkle to your fall wardrobe, and they still feel so polished.

  • Party season calls for this satin envelope clutch with its braided tassel (so fun with a little black dress!).
  • This leather tote is beautiful in every color, but looks especially luxurious in burgundy.
  • This embroidered pouch reminds me of Valentino for 1/10 the price.
  • Inspired by 18th-century tapestries, the jacquard on this little fabric bag is so rich in moody blues and gold. I love pairing it with navy and black looks, and it's crushable, so it takes up almost no space in a suitcase!
  • The glossy croc-embossed leather on this black shoulder bag makes it look far more expensive than $248. The rounded shape sits so nicely tucked under the arm, and it works with a camel coat or a sweater dress.
  • If you're drawn to this season's east-west styles, this one is beautiful in a fawn-patterned calf hair.
  • This supple leather bucket bag reminds me of The Row for under $170.
  • This black calf hair clutch delivers major style for under $150.
  • This small version (12% off with STACIE12) of my bag seen here is on major sale and a stunning everyday bag.
  • This shimmering beaded mini bag is only $138 and has tiers of fringe that sway beautifully on a night out or at holiday parties. I own this style, which gives a similar look!
  • This bestselling bucket bag comes in a range of beautiful suedes, leathers, and shearling.

The photos in this post were taken at Sant Ambroeus Coffee Bar at 61st and Park in NYC, and Bow Bridge at Central Park. I love how that coffee bar has lots of thin, high tables for drinking your coffee from proper china, instead of in to-go cups!
