First Signs of Fall
I love the start of a new season, when you wake up to the first crisp morning that tells you fall is coming and reach for the pieces you're most excited to wear during the months ahead. One of my favorite fall outfit formulas is a mini skirt + sweater + knee high boots. I've worn this combo countless times (here, here and here for example) and it's perfect for crisp autumn days when you want something cozy but don't need to seriously bundle up against the cold.
This year I'm doubly excited because this formula looks SO GOOD paired with a cape. If you've been following along, you'll know I recently traveled to Torino, Italy to design a small collection of capes in partnership with slow-fashion brand Marta Scarampi. The capes have a beautiful drape and hit right at mid-thigh, making them a great counterpart for shorter skirts which hit at a similar spot. (I find outerwear looks best when the skirt hem beneath is within 1-2 inches of the coats hem.) Plus, baring a little skin on your legs balances the volume of a cape on top beautifully. Add a handsome pair of knee-high boots and a top handle bag and you're good to go!
Read on for my favorite sweater + mini skirt + knee high boot combos for each of the capes in my collection with Marta Scarampi!
