Market Day in Saint-Tropez

This post is in partnership with Talbots.

Market day in Saint-Tropez is one of my favorite experiences in the South of France. With stalls overflowing with everything from pastries, fruit, and tablecloths, to antique treasures, it’s the best market in my opinion and not only for the shopping but also the people watching. Sure there are plenty of tourists, but Tropéziennes also turn out to fill their bags with market finds, and inevitably they’re wearing a simple uniform of easy linen pieces with a little something special thrown in.

To emulate their effortless look I packed an all white outfit for our morning at the market, and let me just tell you I have never had so many vendors assume I was French! I started market day with breakfast at our hotel overlooking the water before walking over to Place des Lices for some seaside shopping. Here’s how to get the look featuring my favorite pieces from Talbots new collection!

An easy collared shirt – Whether you opt for a linen button up, a simple striped cotton shirt tied at the waist or my eyelet top, keep the style classic and the pattern simple. The women I saw kept their looks to no more than 2 or 3 colors, which is a shortcut to always looking chic and put together. I love this eyelet top as the varied embroidered medallions throughout feel especially elevated for such an affordable piece! The shorter length also means there isn’t too much bulk if you tuck it into high-waisted pants or shorts (which I recommend you do!)

Great linen trousers – White trousers are a must-have piece in the Tropézienne wardrobe and these white linen pants are phenomenal. High waisted (but not too high!), no belt loops for a sleek look, the perfect straight cut and they are lined (!!!) I absolutely love these pants. Plus they come in petite as well!

Flats – Much of the market is gravel, so opt for a comfy pair of flats to add interest to the outfit without being flashy like my gold and leather sandals or these espadrilles in blue! (I find that Talbots shoes often run a tad big, so if you’re between sizes choose the smaller size.)

Something special – Whether that’s a silk scarf tied around your neck or a fun bag or a chunky bracelet every woman had a little unexpected element to zhuzz up her look! I love the design of my shell paillette bag – which looks designer for a fraction of the price. The embellishments make it a bit heavy, but not in a bad way. Definitely a gorgeous, high quality piece! If you want a more relaxed look, I love this crochet tote for carrying your market finds.
