My Favorite Fall Outfit Formulas
I am looking forward to flipping my closet for fall, and revisiting some of my favorite pieces and outfit formulas for the cooler weather ahead. I have some tried-and-true outfit formulas that I return to again and again, and wanted to highlight them as you consider what you want to add to your own wardrobes for the new season (or perhaps, new ways to wear pieces you already own!) Scroll down for many of my favorite wardrobe staples, and how I like to style them.
A Blazer + Maxi Skirt
Come autumn I love the look of a tailored blazer which balances the fullness of a big silk maxi skirt. To make this work I try to tie in the color of the skirt with either the blazer or the sweater underneath, which will elongate your look by carrying one color from head to toe. Push up your sleeves a bit to reveal your wrists, and pair with a slim almond or pointed toe boot with a little bit of a heel to further extend the line of your figure.

A Great Dress + Statement belt
Autumn is all about layering and rich textures and one of my favorite ways to do this is by adding a belt to fall looks. It should come as no surprise that my favorite belts are from Sarah Flint, and for the next two days all SF accessories are an additional 25% off with code "EXTRA25". Whether you add a belt to a sweater dress or over something more structured like this cream puff-sleeved number adding a belt instantly elevates almost any outfit. Coordinate your belt color with your shoes for the ultimate autumn polish.

Wax Jackets + Turtleneck Sweaters
Every woman needs a classic wax jacket or barn jacket in their wardrobe, characterized by a cordoroy collar and big patch pockets for carrying everything from apples to dog treats. These jackets look fabulous over cozy knits, and especially a nice thick turtleneck with the jacket collar slightly popped. Available in a range of colors and price points from the iconic Barbour beadnell to J.Crew's modern styles, there is something for everyone. The perfect Saturday style to wear for all your fall adventures from hiking to coffee dates.

Mini Skirt + Knee-High Boots
As temperatures start to dip we all reach for cozier layers but sometimes nubby skirts need a bit more than a ballet flat to look balanced. Knee high boots allow us to show a bit of leg later into the season while anchoring your fall look and providing added warmth when paired with socks. Whether you go for a classic equestrian style or something with a bit of a heel the mini skirt + knee high boot combo is a winner in my book.
Plaid Blazers + Cozy Sweaters
Sure blazers come in a myriad of colors and textures but there's something so timeless about a handsome plaid blazer that just feels like fall. Whether you go for a neutral weave or something with a bit of color, pairing your blazer with a sweater that pulls colors from the plaid is an easy way to create a thoughtful and cohesive look. If you opt for a neutral sweater as a base, consider throwing on a scarf to add some interest. This look works well with relaxed denim + flats or skinny jeans tucked into boots.

A Trench Coat + Cropped Trousers
Of course you can wear a trench coat with almost anything in your wardrobe but one of my favorite combos is pairing the lighter trench, with a slightly cropped trouser. (High waisted pant styles work best for this look!) The just below the knee length of the trench works well with a slightly shorter pant hem. Use your bare ankle to show off a beautiful pair of heels.
