Our Thanksgiving Table

Nothing like hosting Thanksgiving just two weeks after moving in!  We had David’s side of the family in town and it was so fun hosting for the first time in our new place. It was only my second time making Thanksgiving dinner and to be honest it only went as well as it did because we had two ovens (we still had our rental apartment through the end of Nov, so we made heavy use of that second kitchen while the turkey was cooking at the new house!) Such a great trial run as we head into a kitchen renovation next year, I’ll definitely be requesting a double oven. With everything going on on Thanksgiving Day (finishing up some painting! trying to replace broken lights!) it’s a miracle I was able to take a moment to snap a few photos of our table.

My three Thanksgiving must-haves are a beautiful table, great company and really good pumpkin pie (my recipe here). The entire tablescape was inspired by Sarah Flint’s beautiful new collection of table linens. I was able to visit the factory where they are made in Italy last May and it was so special to have her beautiful designs on our table this year! Aside from that, celadon chargers picked up in Thailand during our world trip, and our collection of Herend Rothschild Garden plates carried on the green theme. I love cut crystal glasses for special occasions, especially given how they sparkle in candlelight and pairing them with my treasured collection of French opaline water goblets are great for ensuring everyone stays hydrated. The antique brass pheasants wait all year to adorn this table and they remind me of one of my favorite trips ever: a pheasant shoot at Euston Hall in England with my friend Rita. That trip was right before Thanksgiving and I get nostalgic to go back every November. Maybe next year! My only regret is that I didn’t have my first pheasant from the trip stuffed as a momento – too much? I think not!  Either way I’ll have to stick with the little brass versions for now.
