A decade into our careers, David and I decided to take a year-long sabbatical to travel the world. We started with a one way ticket to Buenos Aires, Argentina and a back-of-the-napkin draft of our itinerary, which turned into the trip of a lifetime visiting 70 countries on 6 continents over 14 magical months. We started the trip in January 2017 (announcement here) and returned home to the United States in March 2018 just in time for a friend's wedding, exploring South America, Asia, Oceania, India, Europe, the Middle East and Africa along the way.
I've been revisiting many of these posts while in quarantine, warmed by the reminder of how big and beautiful our world can be. While many of us find ourselves at home, I wanted to organize our trip content so my fellow armchair travelers could dream and gather inspiration for your next adventure when the world opens back up. Below are our travel diaries from the world trip organized in rough chronological order. (Exact dates we were in each country/city can be found here.) The itinerary isn't necessarily a prescriptive ideal for any world trip as we bounced around a bit to accommodate friends schedules who were either hosting us or meeting us in one of our destinations. Some countries we explored for a month, others we only saw for a couple of hours.
Creating this list made me realize I never published posts for some countries, and completing those journals seems like a good quarantine activity. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below and I'll try to answer. Thanks so much for reading and we hope you enjoy!
