There are so many wonderful villages around the south of France, but one place we return to again and again is the hilltop town of Gordes. On our recent trip to France, we discovered our friends Bill and Gina were in Gordes while we were in Saint Tropez, so we popped up to get dinner with them and spend the night. In late May the poppies are just starting to bloom and the weather is beautiful without the summer crowds. We got dinner together on the terrace bar at Airelles La Bastide, one of our favorite hotels in the area (see our stay from 2023 here) and wandered the picturesque town. We only stayed one night and found a pretty little hotel on the outskirts of the village called La Ferme de la Huppe which had beautiful gardens and a charming breakfast setup, and was very reasonably priced. As we pulled into the property there was a collection of vintage Porsches lined up at the entrance, part of a car club that was touring Provence together - what fun! (Apparently the hotel offers a very nice dinner as well, but we didn't have the chance to try it since we had other plans with friends.) Other favorites from the area include getting tea and pastries at Laduree in Gordes and lunch on our way out of town in Jardin du Quai in L'Isle sur la Sorgue, which has a fabulous fixed 3 course lunch that changes every day and is well worth a stop!
