Styling a Cape 3 Ways

This post is in partnership with Marta Scarampi.

I’ve been a longtime believer in a good cape. This effortless piece has a relaxed fit that can travel with you through all stages of life – from running to brunch in your 20s, to keeping a baby bump warm (or concealed!), to looking effortlessly elegant as one matures. With a generous cut they fit easily over blazers and other work attire, but their fluid shape looks equally at home with jeans on a Saturday morning.

A few months back I met Marta, the designer behind Marta Scarampi for breakfast in Soho and got to see her beautiful made-on-demand pieces in person. Sister duo Lucia and Marta started the brand in an effort to create luxurious wardrobe classics inspired by the elegance and heritage of their hometown: Torino, Italy. Each piece is made by hand and made-on-demand: select your favorite silhouette and color and the team of seamstresses at their Torino-based atelier get to work – delivering a beautiful heirloom to your door in just under two weeks. Their thoughtful approach is intentionally slow fashion, only making items as they are ordered to cut down on waste and overproduction, and utilizing natural fabrics such as wool and cashmere which are better for the environment. I’ve teamed up with this wonderful brand to give you a closer look at their collection and style three of their capes three ways – hopefully inspiring you to incorporate a cape into your own wardrobe!

Note: In support of our friends in Italy during this crisis I want to do everything I can to help them stay open and productive and provide a bright spot in this moment of darkness. I have removed all affiliate links in this post (which give me a small commission on any purchase I inspire) and instead, I’d love to give you an extra nudge to support this wonderful small business by offering 20% off your purchase with the code “WeSupport.” Marta Scarampi’s atelier is currently closed for the safety of their workers but they hope to return to their sewing machines on March 26th, and continue to deliver beautiful, heirloom quality capes for years to come.

Styling the Banksy Cape for Work

The Banksy Cape and matching Tisha Banksy Blazer are a clever twinset that will take you from your desk to drinks effortlessly.  Whether you wear the cape and blazer together or style each on their own, this set has a vintage flair that feels like something Midge Maisel would covet.  (I love the blue but feel like she would go for the green.) Keep the rest of the outfit black from head-to-toe with a cashmere turtleneck, wool cigarette pants, and the perfect pump for a streamlined and modern ensemble. (One styling tip: with this much fabric I recommend showing a little ankle via cropped pants which nicely balances the volume on top. )

Styling the Charlotte Cape for Date Night

The Charlotte Cape is a heavenly soft beauty made of 100% pure cashmere, and I was surprised to learn that its pretty taupe hue is the natural color of cashmere before it is dyed! The Charlotte may be a major investment piece but it compliments almost every other color in your closet – making it likely you’ll reach for it over and over again. I love that it has a waist-defining belt and double breasted buttons down the front, and styled it for a date night by pairing it with leather pants and sexy slingback heels in a monochromatic color palette.

Styling the Giulia for a Casual Saturday

The Giulia Cape is their most relaxed silhouette and I was surprised to find it was my favorite. Made of nubby Woolmark boucle wool in the perfect off-white hue (they offer seven other colors!) it pairs perfectly with the myriad of turtleneck sweaters and button up shirts in my closet. The Giulia’s easy shape and elegant drape instantly elevates denim and a pair of flats while still being utterly comfortable. I am obsessed with its vintage silhouette and can’t wait to wear it throughout the spring!

Marta Scarampi offers capes in many other colors and styles and you can explore their entire collection here!

    Stacie!

Thank you for the wonderful and inspiring posts!

Please share details on the beautiful earrings you are wearing in the first cape (coat) posting. Are they Van Cleef and Arpels?

Hi! So sorry I missed your question earlier. They’re actually the Sienna Drops from Asha and much more affordable than Van Cleef and Arpels. 🙂 She’s doing 15% off right now with code Meals15. 🙂 xx Stacie

Hello! I love the light blue purse you have with the ivory cape. Can you share whose design it is?
