The Best Cropped Jackets for Fall

As we ease into fall, few pieces feel as useful as a great cropped jacket. It adds just the right amount of warmth while giving even the simplest jeans-and-knit combination a little more polish. This season, I’m especially drawn to rich textures and heritage details, from Chanel-inspired tweeds and buttery suede to quilted barn jackets, corduroy collars and beautiful embroidery. Whether you’re dressing for the office, a countryside weekend or an evening out, I’ve rounded up the best cropped jackets to carry you through fall and well beyond.

  • The moment I saw this beautiful British tweed cropped jacket I knew I had to add it to my wardrobe. Made of a stunning Linton Tweed (the mill Chanel sources fabric from for their iconic jackets!), it's a heritage piece you'll enjoy for years to come. (I got the US 2/UK 6.) I love how the boxy silhouette sits perfectly over a cardigan and high-waisted jeans (these are the perfect leg-lengthening fit and wash). And it will look equally amazing over an all black outfit, or cream knit dress. (They have another Linton tweed jacket in red too!)
  • How fun is this reversible patchwork jacket? Two looks in one makes it ideal for travel. Style with straight-leg jeans and my favorite boots for a cozy, country-inspired fall outfit.
  • For holiday parties and special evenings (the ballet?), this gold jacket with a ribbon tie is showstopping. Pair with silk trousers or a little black dress and you'll be the best-dressed person in the room.
  • Rich suede in fall colors under $250?! Yes please. This wine-hued suede cropped jacket and this camel suede collarless jacket are both gorgeous seasonal staples that look incredible with everything from denim to floral midi dresses.
  • Nothing elevates a simple barn jacket like a sparkling collar. While not actually cropped, this embellished jacket just dropped this morning and I feel like it's going to sell out fast. Throw it on with jeans and a cashmere tee for school pickup, or pair with a black silk slip dress for date night.
  • That contrast cord collar on this tweed barn jacket gives it such a sophisticated country feel. I'd wear it over a chunky cable knit with black skinny jeans and riding boots for a weekend in the countryside. (On sale, and size down!)
  • For a more bohemian take on the cropped jacket trend, this floral quilted jacket has gorgeous navy and rust tones. The belted waist is so flattering over dark denim with a turtleneck underneath.
  • Bouclé and plaid together? Yes please. This cropped jacket (20% off with StacieM20) looks amazing layered over a turtleneck with camel trousers now, and it transitions beautifully into spring with white jeans.
  • The intricate bandana-inspired embroidery on this navy cropped jacket is just gorgeous. The relaxed balloon sleeves and bubble hem make it feel bohemian yet polished over white shorts or linen pants. (Love how they styled the model!)
  • Rainy fall days just got chicer with this gingham showerproof jacket from Barbour. The warm brown tones pair beautifully with navy trousers and a turtleneck for a classic autumn look.
  • I just ordered this light blue Italian suede jacket and the contrast leather collar is such a refined detail. It's the perfect chore-jacket-meets-luxury piece for jeans and a simple white tee, or over a long sweater dress.
  • Not exactly cropped, but I love the paisley print on this structured block print jacket (15% off with STACIE15) which makes it a true statement piece. Wear with your favorite cream trousers or straight fit jeans.
  • This merino wool lady jacket is such an elegant look for under $100. Pair with high-waisted trousers and a silk blouse for an effortlessly polished fall look.
  • Grey wool is endlessly versatile, and this barn jacket has such a chic boxy silhouette. Layer it over a cable knit sweater now, then pair with a linen dress in spring.
  • Olive denim with a brown corduroy collar? This bomber jacket is giving all the fall countryside vibes. Throw it over a white t-shirt and khakis for an easy weekend outfit.
  • If you love heritage style, this glen plaid wool jacket (20% off with StacieM20) is the elevated jacket of dreams. Wear it with cords and boots on the weekend or tailored trousers for the office.
  • A cropped denim trench is such an unexpected statement piece. This double-breasted jacket looks incredible worn open over a midi skirt and knee-high boots, or with wide-leg trousers and a tucked-in knit.
  • The designers at Barbour took scissors to one of their most popular styles, and to great effect! This navy quilted jacket with cord trim is the kind of piece you'll wear for years, whether it's apple picking in jeans or running to the gym in leggings.
