The Fall Shoe Trends That Have Staying Power

When it comes to trends, I’m much more interested in the ones with staying power than anything that feels destined for a single season. And happily, many of Fall 2026’s biggest shoe trends are rooted in timeless style. Think sumptuous suede ballet flats, polished loafers, kitten heels, rich animal prints, tasseled details, and beautifully made boots with just enough personality. When a classic style is trending, I see it as an opportunity: suddenly there are more wonderful versions to choose from at every price point. I took a look at what fashion insiders are forecasting for the season and distilled it down to the trends I think are truly worth adopting, along with the particular colors, prints, and silhouettes that feel the chicest. Below, I’ve picked the best of the best, from everyday flats and loafers you’ll wear for years to a few statement-making heels and boots that make fall dressing feel especially exciting.

Ballet Flats

  • My most-worn shoes of the year are Sarah Flint's Perfect Ballet Flats. I own the navy suede and the cognac woven versions and reach for them constantly. The built-in arch support makes them comfortable enough for all-day wear, and they come in so many beautiful colors and materials, including black suede, warm brown, taupe, and a bold red.
  • Blush pink suede ballet flats with a sweet grosgrain bow are a great, less expensive alternative to the Sarah Flint flats above. Lovely with wide-leg trousers, a cashmere sweater, and a camel coat.
  • The contrast cap toe on this wine-and-pink ballet flat scratches the Chanel itch for a very attractive price. Such a pretty color combination that works beautifully with navy, cream, or charcoal for fall.
  • Velvet flats are so chic for fall, and this hazel pair has a beautiful warmth to it. The high topline and almond toe are really flattering, and velvet instantly elevates even jeans and a sweater.

Animal Prints

While many animal prints are trending right now, I mostly recommend investing in leopard pieces and tonal snakeskin. Leave the zebra, cow, and tiger options on the shelf.

  • Leopard print is having a major moment, and this suede ballet flat is the chicest way to wear it. Treat it like a neutral and pair with dark denim, a little black dress, or burgundy trousers. (These are also very cute and a bit more affordable.)
  • Talk about a statement shoe. This leopard tassel pump combines two major trends (animal print and tassels) in one gorgeous package. Pair with a simple black dress and let the shoes steal the show. (I love how the tassels bounce as you walk!)
  • Animal print done right. This snake-embossed pointed flat adds just the right amount of edge to simple outfits. I'd wear with a cream knit and straight-leg jeans for an effortlessly chic look. I will say I only like tonal snakeskin prints, like navy and black or varied shades of brown. I don't love black and white snakeskin for some reason.
  • Slide into these Italian-made leopard calf hair mules for instant polish. The almond toe and higher vamp keep them elegant, and they look amazing with dark denim or a simple black dress. I have these mules in another color, and they're very comfortable. I find myself keeping them by the front door to just slip on and go!
  • For evenings when you want a heel but nothing too high, these leopard suede pumps are perfection. The 70mm height is incredibly walkable, and leopard truly goes with everything from black to navy to camel. I just bought these, and they're so flattering on the foot.

Loafers

I love a good loafer and have quite a few in my collection. I always look for elegant, slim silhouettes over chunky soles, heels, or ruching around the toe. My finds below will give you that smart collegiate look while flattering the leg and offering all-day walkability.

  • This classic brown suede penny loafer is the kind of shoe you'll have for years. Wear with ankle-length jeans and a blazer now, or linen trousers and a knit tee in warmer months. They feel like butter the moment you put them on and are very flattering on the foot.
  • The bow detail on these tan suede loafers gives them a relaxed elegance I love. Great with tailored shorts, a midi skirt, or straight-leg trousers for a look that's polished but never stuffy.
  • I'm obsessed with the gold horsebit hardware on this iconic loafer. I've had mine for years, and they're just so comfortable. These offer a similar look at an incredible price point, and they look just as good with a blazer at the office as they do with jeans on Saturday.
  • Made in Portugal, these rich chocolate penny loafers will earn a permanent spot in your rotation. Perfect with tailored wool trousers at the office or relaxed denim on weekends.
  • An investment loafer worth every penny. These Italian-made tasseled loafers in buttery tan leather are the epitome of quiet luxury. Wear with everything from wool trousers to cuffed denim.
  • These brown leather tassel loafers from The Row are the kind of shoe that whispers impeccable taste. Gorgeous with wide-leg trousers and a silk blouse.
  • Relaxed weekends call for a great driving shoe, and this suede loafer (15% off with STACIE15) fits the bill perfectly. Toss them on with chinos or linen pants for errands, brunch, or road trips.
  • Tassels and mules in one? These camel suede loafer mules are the easiest way to look polished without trying. Slide them on with cropped trousers, jeans, or even a miniskirt for instant fall style.

Kitten Heels

Who doesn't love a dainty, walkable heel!

  • Sarah Flint's mocha patent kitten pump is the desk-to-dinner shoe I've been looking for. The flared heel adds stability, the arch support is wonderful, and the deep brown patent goes with everything.
  • Every wardrobe needs a perfect black kitten heel, and this Italian-made suede slingback from Ann Mashburn is it. The 50mm height is ideal for all-day wear, from meetings to dinner.
  • I love the sweet bow on this red suede slingback at such a great price point. The kitten heel and pointed toe are incredibly flattering, and that rich red works from fall through the holidays.
  • When you need a going-out shoe that works all season, these silver metallic kitten heels are perfection. The knotted straps and padded footbed mean you can actually dance in them.
  • Pointed, comfortable, and endlessly wearable, these crinkled leather slingbacks go from morning to night without a second thought. The wider elastic strap is a game changer for all-day wear.
  • Margaux never disappoints, and this two-tone slingback heel with cap toe detailing is proof. An elegant everyday shoe that sharpens trousers, elevates jeans, and pairs beautifully with skirts. I find these are much more flattering than the Chanel cap toe slingback!
  • Sleek and modern, these dark brown suede slingbacks have a contemporary V-cut that's so flattering on the foot. Wear with a knit dress and tights now, or cropped trousers in transitional weather.
  • Barely there yet incredibly chic, this espresso crinkle patent strappy sandal transitions beautifully from late summer to early fall. Perfect with a linen dress or tailored shorts.

Statement Heels

Rich satins and opulent embellished finishes are trending, and I love these juxtaposed against a ladylike style. I'm sure more will be coming out as the season progresses, but I had to share these three splurgy finds with you now!

  • The hand-beaded detail on this pump is truly a work of art, straight from the runway. A statement shoe for weddings, galas, or any occasion where you want your feet to do the talking.
  • These embroidered satin slingbacks are the kind of shoes you build an outfit around. The intricate detailing on black satin feels moody and romantic. Stunning with a slip dress or tailored trousers.
  • How gorgeous is this purple satin kitten heel? The jewel tone and modest 50mm heel make it a standout for holiday parties, date nights, or anytime you want to feel special without sky-high heels.

Boots

These boots have a little personality that will add flair and excitement to fall and winter looks.

  • I just ordered my first pair of Paris Texas boots, and they are so incredibly beautiful. They have the perfect pointed toe, are easy to slip on and off, comfortable to walk in, and look amazing with skirts and dresses all season.
  • Rich dark suede, a '70s silhouette, and that braided hardware detail make this knee-high boot a fall wardrobe anchor. Stunning with midi skirts, tucked-in denim, or a knit dress.
  • Straight off the runway, this textured calfskin tall boot with its colorblock toe is a true statement piece. Pair with simple silhouettes and let the boots do all the talking.
  • Western meets feminine in this gorgeous patchwork suede tall boot with whipstitch detailing and a walkable kitten heel. So chic with a flowing midi dress or tucked-in skinny jeans.
  • Sharp and architectural, this black leather ankle boot with an angular cap toe feels modern and polished. A great option with cropped trousers or a pencil skirt at the office.
