The Silk Scarf: The Vacation Accessory You Didn’t Know You Need

This post is in partnership with Fleur Sauvage.

Scarves are truly the most versatile accessories in your wardrobe, and when packing for vacation, a silk scarf is the must-have accessory you didn’t know your suitcase needed.  Between their compact size and endless styling options, a silk scarf is the perfect travel accessory.

Last fall I had the honor of highlighting a beautiful new brand founded by a longtime follower and member of this community – Fleur Sauvage!  You all loved our last partnership so much (read the post here) that I packed a few of her beautiful silk scarves for our trip to the Bahamas to share three more ways I like to wear silk scarves – this time as a warm weather accessory.

When I wear a silk scarf I feel so definitely like a woman, a beautiful woman.

            – Audrey Hepburn

Fleur Savage’s gorgeous scarves are the perfect vacation accessory as there are myriad ways to wear this wardrobe essential. Made in small batches of 100% organic silk, Fleur Sauvage’s scarves are produced at a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified factory in England with the highest attention to detail, like hand-rolled hems. The collection includes a range of designs from beautiful florals to sporty motifs so you have the perfect accessory for every occasion.

The 90cm scarf is my favorite size to collect due to its versatility. From cinching the waist of a dress to tying back your hair, or from an impromptu top to a stylish sling for a broken arm (made famous by Grace Kelly!) the 90cm scarf does it all.  I brought three designs with me to the Bahamas all in 90cm, so read on for my favorite styling tips and how to wear the most feminine of accessories!

The Bandeau Top

Wearing a scarf as a top is the definition of vacation dressing in my mind – a simple piece that takes up almost zero space in your suitcase and is a great way to show off sun-kissed skin. I just fold in half on the diagonal then roll the longest edge a couple of times until it’s the desired length, then knot it around my strapless bra at the back. This looks great on it’s own or under a little lady jacket.

The  Headband

After a day at the beach my hair can get a bit fizzy, and I often pull it back into a (tiny!) bun. Adding a silk scarf as a headband helps make this look chic instead of messy. Simply fold in a triangle and roll it up into a long ribbon, then tie it at the back of the head under your bun to keep your hair in place! If you have longer hair you can keep your hair down, or simply tie the scarf around your ponytail.

The Belt

Wearing a scarf as a belt is a wonderful way to add a little interest and pop of color to your outfit! Fold your scarf in half along the diagonal and roll it up before tying it around your waist. It is the perfect finishing touch to fit ‘n flare dresses, high waisted pants, or left fluttering from the belt loops of your trench coat.
