Now that it's officially fall I'm ready to break out all the plaid. (And cable-knits, corduroy and cashmere.) Autumn is my favorite season to dress for and I love layering on cozy pieces as the temperatures begin to drop.

While summer is all about fun dresses with personality, for my fall and winter wardrobe I look to well-made wardrobe staples that will stand the test of time. From a cashmere turtleneck that fits perfectly, to a classic wrap coat that could easily be plucked from Ali MacGraw's wardrobe in Love Story and still look as current today as it did in 1970 - I  want my bigger ticket items to look chic for years (decades!) to come.

One of my favorite resources for elegant wardrobe stapes is Farfetch. The e-commerce destination curates pieces from over 1,300 brands, boutiques and department stores around the world. And is one of the best places for discovering emerging designers or hard-to-find pieces. Rather that relying on what a couple buyers at a big retailer think is chic, Farfetch gives you an all-access pass to luxurious pieces from Singapore to San Francisco, Montreal to Mexico City. Some of my favorite small brand discoveries have been on FarFetch, from the Rocio bag I'm carrying in these photos to Harris Wharf London's tailored outerwear. I often find that smaller international brands are only available on Farfetch, whether it's my beloved Cambio jeans (a small German brand) to new favorite Tagliatore (from Italy!)

I've been on the hunt for a plaid wrap coat for several seasons and was thrilled to uncover this one by new-to-me brand Tagliatore. A small label known for their construction (their name means ‘the tailor’ in Italian) - I'm obsessed with their gorgeous coats. This plaid wrap coat is 100% virgin wool and has the most beautiful drape and fit. (It also comes in a double-breasted topcoat version, or a wrap silhouette in black cashmere or houndstooth if that's what you prefer!)  If you're going to invest in one special item for this upcoming fall/winter make it a beautiful coat, especially if you live in a colder climate as it's the first thing (perhaps the only thing!) you show the world for several months. After that a gorgeous pair of shoes, a handbag and pearl studs that all look great with your coat will ensure that you always look pulled together even if you're just wearing a simple white tee and jeans underneath.
