After a year of living out of a suitcase I’m grateful to have access to my full closet again. That said, there are always those pieces that I love reaching for again and again, and this year my handbag by Mark Cross has been the most-worn item out of everything that I own. It compliments almost every outfit from jeans and a sweater to office attire and evening looks. You can see examples of my recent outfits here, here, here and here.
I have admired Mark Cross’s work ever since I watched Rear Window for the first time. Gerald, the company’s President, was personal friends with Alfred Hitchcock and created Grace Kelly’s impossibly chic overnight case for the film – and with it cemented the name Mark Cross in the American lexicon of fashion. Founded in 1845, Mark Cross was originally a bridle, harness and saddle maker. This connection to utilitarian leather goods seems to be why their modern-day handbags are so beautiful – yet resilient to wear and tear.
After contemplating the purchase for months I decided on the “Benchley” style. Modeled after a vintage binocular case it alludes to the adventure ahead every time I put it on my arm. Between it’s beautiful construction and silhouettes that will never go out of style, this bag is well worth the investment. Mark Cross bags almost never go on sale, but this week I’ve stumbled upon several Benchley bags that are 30-50% off and just had to share the news in case you’ve been considering one as well! This black and white version would be so smart with office attire and I just ordered this yellow and rattan one for upcoming tropical destinations. I’ve never seen this bag for this price before, which makes me think it was an error by the Saks.com technical team, the price is so good. My exact color I’m wearing isn’t currently on sale, but I’ve linked other gorgeous colors that are deeply discounted below for all of you that are on Santa’s nice list this year. 🙂 Let me know if you have questions about these bags. I’ve had mine for 8 months and despite almost daily use it still looks brand new.
