Why Prada Is Betting Big on Skirts (And You Should Too)

For Prada’s Spring 2027 show, presented last week, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons sent 63 looks down the runway, and every single one featured a skirt: wrapped, pleated, embellished, printed, and everything in between. The collection nodded back to a 2006 interview with Ingrid Sischy, in which Prada described the skirt as being “like a T-shirt” for its incredible versatility. I couldn’t agree more. A skirt gives you so much freedom to play with color, texture, print, and proportion without feeling as though the look is competing with your features. Pair a statement skirt with a simple cashmere turtleneck, silk camisole, crisp button-up, or blazer, and let the skirt do all the work. From rich suede and tapestry florals to shimmering jacquard and sweeping silk, there are so many beautiful ways to make one the centerpiece of an outfit this season. So be a little daring and add a statement skirt to your collection.

  • Let's start with something that I think delivers mega style but is easy to pair with pieces in your wardrobe: a suede midi skirt. I've been yapping on and on about how fabulous I feel in this skirt (now sold out) for a month or two, and there are great options at a variety of price points available. A chocolate brown version from Nour Hammour, a stunning orchid pencil skirt, or this and this under $500. I especially love brown suede skirts with a leopard heel, which works with a variety of hues and grounds the look. Add a crisp blue button-up shirt and statement necklace for a polished desk-to-dinner look.
  • Bold and artful, this silk scarf skirt looks incredible with a slim cashmere turtleneck.
  • I'm obsessed with the satin bow detail on this wine taffeta skirt for holiday parties. Gorgeous with a coordinating burgundy cashmere tee or slim turtleneck and statement earrings.
  • Simple, smart, and endlessly versatile, this olive maxi skirt pairs with everything in your closet. (Especially like the idea of tucking in a plaid shirt!)
  • Striped knit with a gorgeous flared shape, this cream midi skirt is effortlessly polished. Pair with a wide brown belt and almost any chocolate brown or cream top.
  • This moody floral-print skirt reminds me of vintage Ralph Lauren, and comes in petite too!
  • A black plissé skirt that is anything but basic. It works for everything from dinners to the office.
  • Olive green silk with fringe detailing makes this skirt a showstopper for evening.
  • Ethereal and bohemian, this tiered paisley maxi skirt has beautiful metallic shimmer. (Here is a similar look available in petite for under $200!) I love a maxi skirt with an ankle boot like this for a little lift.
  • Equestrian-chic vibes on this satin wrap skirt, perfect with a tucked-in cream blouse. (Available in petite!)
  • Interesting patchwork stripes give this flared skirt so much movement and personality.
  • Nothing says heritage cool like a cotton cashmere plaid skirt. Pair with a slim turtleneck and blazer for the office, or the matching top ($50 off with STACIE50) for an evening out.
  • I just popped into the Altuzarra store, and this stunning blue leather midi skirt is a timeless investment piece.
  • Pair this metallic floral pencil skirt with a chambray shirt for hosting a dinner party.
  • The tonal embroidery on this knit skirt is absolutely exquisite.
  • So pretty for fall, this floral silk midi skirt would be lovely with a cozy sweater and knee-high boots.
  • For mini skirt lovers, this gilded jacquard A-line mini is party perfection.
  • The cascading silhouette on this navy tweed skirt is incredibly striking.
  • Darling speckled tweed mini that looks amazing with a chunky knit and patterned cashmere scarf at the neck.
  • Rich chocolate florals on this silk midi skirt feel luxe and autumnal. Pair with an asymmetric sweater for date night, or pop on a blazer for the office.
  • This sweeping red floral silk skirt from Johanna Ortiz works all winter with a turtleneck and boots, then on vacation with a knit tank top and sandals.
  • Autumnal florals on the bias give this silk blend skirt (20% off with StacieF20) such a beautiful drape for under $200. (And I love how they styled it with a belt!)
  • Wear this geometric cotton skirt with a turtleneck for chilly days, or the matching top for a full vacation moment.
  • Such a gorgeous tapestry print on this green silk midi skirt. Pair with a chunky turtleneck (untucked) and pretty, heeled mules.
  • Shimmering jacquard in golden tones makes this skirt a standout for parties in the coming months. (Available in petite, regular, and tall!)
  • Buttery smooth leather with a braided belt detail, this sand skirt is timeless and reminds me of Bottega Veneta for a fraction of the price.
  • Ruffled tiers and a cocoa fern print make this skirt gorgeous with a solid cashmere crewneck and tall boots. If you have a dark look head to toe, consider adding a gold pendant necklace (my favorite here) to brighten the look!
