Brand to Know: Ulla Johnson
Hello from NYC! I'm in town for a girl's weekend with my friend Gina and it's been fun seeing the Fashion Week prep around the city. Gina's apartment is on the UES and we've mostly stayed uptown which isn't the locus of fashion week events but it does make for some excellent shopping! Madison Avenue has seen a boom of chic new store openings this week including Tuckernuck and Ulla Johnson (a few snaps below), and since Ulla's fashion show is today I thought it would be fun to highlight the brand. Ulla grew up in Manhattan and offers sophisticated, bohemian pieces for women who understand the value of beautiful materials and quality construction. If you love Tory Burch I think you'll love Ulla Johnson (if you aren't a fan already!) and their autumn/winter collection has so many treasures in it. I wore the outfit above for a dinner at Belden House in Litchfield, CT a few weeks ago and can't wait to wear all of these pieces throughout the fall.
- I'm mentioned this before, but Ulla's midi skirts are wonderful. I'm wearing this silk-blend skirt above, and it's a style that you can and will wear year-round. It is very similar to an old Etro skirt that I have worn countless times, and you can style this skirt in the same ways, picking out different hues from the pattern to help it transition through the seasons. Pale pink for spring, ivory for summer, and the rust and olive hues for fall and winter.
- If you love the fabric of my skirt it also comes in this fabulous maxi dress, this sweet blouse and this shirtdress.
- I tried on this stunning purple coat in their store and fell in love. It's oversized and the petite version (mirror selfie below) was best on me. I didn't want to carry it around all day so didn't buy it in store, but just ordered it online. I love a collarless coat for winter, you can pair with a turtleneck for a sleek look, or tie on a yummy cashmere scarf without feeling like your neck is in a brace. The purple is spectacular, but if bold color isn't for you they make gorgeous tan and chocolate brown versions as well.
- If you have a special event or two at the end of the year might I suggest this or this? Pair either with my favorite event heels in black or gold so you can dance all night!
- I love an embellished top for dinners out as you'll spend most of your time seated and only your top is visible to your dining partners. A few standouts include this silk blouse and this, both of which could be worn with denim or a tailored jacquard pant!
- Two little black dresses that feel classic with a twist include this and this!
- I love a moody eyelet piece for transitioning into fall or as a staple for my warm weather girls. The rust and forest versions of this blouse are so beautiful. I also tried on this eyelet top with it's cascading ruffles. I though was so chic on the model, but when I tried it on I looked like a frilled lizard. Apparently I am the only one who feels that way as it's sold out everywhere.
- I ordered this feather patterned skirt and loved the print and fabric but it was more of a midi skirt on me (I'm 5'9") than the sweeping maxi I was hoping for. If you're 5'4" ish and under it will likely fit you like the model. Such a stunning piece and would amazing with these booties, this belt and a slim cashmere turtleneck! (Same goes for the ochre satin version, thought it would look especially amazing with the matching top.)
- These little hoop earrings caught my eye in the store. They have a beautiful luster and would dress up the simplest top. They look heavy and substantial but won't weigh your ear down. So gorgeous!
A few notes on the outfit in today's post - I picked up the chartreuse cashmere turtleneck I'm wearing in this post at Plain Goods in CT, but it was the last one in this color. (Find their other colors here.) I sized up to a Medium (I'm normally an XS) and love the cut - It will be great under my new Barbour for fall walks and cozying up on the couch this winter. If you're looking for a similar color to pair with my skirt I like this cashmere crewneck and this cardigan.
