Yesterday we attended an Easter picnic in Golden Gate Park's Hellman Hollow and we couldn't have asked for a more idyllic setting to celebrate Easter Sunday with friends. The lawn was rimmed with cherry blossoms and our friend Steph organized a potluck encouraging everyone to bring their signature dish and it was easily the most delicious picnic we've ever attended. The impressive spread included Jack's incredible ribs still hot from the grill, Dillon's handmade sourdough bread, Agatha's chocolate cake, and I contributed these pink pickled deviled eggs* (see note below). We put on an egg hunt for the kids and it was so cute to watch the littlest ones toddle over to pick each one up.
I was thrilled to have clear skies and weather warm enough to wear this beautiful silk midi dress by Kate Spade, with its pastel colors and pattern vaguely reminiscent of a picnic blanket. I was instantly drawn to its vintage silhouette and think it can be dressed down with a straw bag for a picnic or al fresco lunch, or worn with metallic heels to attend a wedding this spring or summer. (Scroll down for its dramatic V back.) I love wearing midi dresses in San Francisco because every afternoon the wind starts to pick up, sending shorter skirts flying, but a midi skirt is usually manageable in the wind. I wore mine with my new - and much loved - tortoise heels from Sarah Flint (more about them here) and a straw bag from Loeffler Randall. I've been drawn to darker straw recently since I can work it into outfits for 3 seasons and it feels equally appropriate with heavier fabrics (as seen here), and sophisticated with summer's gossamer fabrics.
*MARITAL DISPUTE: David contends that posting whipped eggs online is gross. I think they're pretty - especially because they're pink - but it seems 5 years into marriage I'm discovering David has a major food (photography) phobia. This turned into a very heated debate with name calling "You're just like Martha Stewart" (see what he means here). What do you think? Are there certain foods that just aren't fit for print? Do you have a funny food phobia?! Am I a social pariah?
