Your Spring Capsule Wardrobe: 6 Must-Have Items

As we look towards spring it becomes increasingly tempting to dress for the weather we want (sundresses! shorts! straw hats and bags!), while also struggling with the reality of chilly temperatures. This time of year I tend to lean on my tried-and-true basics in light colored or neutral hues to get me through until spring truly has sprung. Here's a roundup of my transitional must haves (many of which might already be hanging in your closet!) as we wait for warmer weather:

  • Timeless Trench coats - I just did a blog post featuring my favorite trench coats for spring here, but it's worth mentioning again. This versatile garment will help protect you from springtime showers while also adding an element of polish to your look. I've owned this trench coat since 2019 and it's such a great piece - barely wrinkles and is the perfect versatile length and color. Find my other timeless trench coat favorites here
  • Lightweight knitwear - You still need a cozy layer but don't feel like wearing dark colored turtlenecks anymore...enter cotton sweaters and four season stripes to get you through. Some of my favorites include this chic neutral stripe from Alice Walk (all of the sweaters from this brand are fabulous!) or this striped cardigan that looks great buttoned up as a top over high waisted denim. Also just came across this robin egg blue sweater which feels springy even if you still need a wool layer!
  • Great Jeans -  I've been on the hunt for super flattering jeans since I had a baby and I've discovered a few winners. Whether you're looking for the perfect pair of relaxed denim (petite version here!) or a chic high-waisted white jean, these pairs will be wardrobe workhorses all year round. I also love the slim boyfriend cut I'm wearing in this post which is on major sale here. (Size down!)
  • Mixed Material Bags - Carrying a bag that has a mix of materials that bridge winter and spring can help transition your wardrobe effortlessly. I'm particularly smitten with J.Crew's leather and linen bucket bag seen in this post, but also love this and this!
  • Sunnies - The sun is finally coming out and a fresh pair of sunnies always makes any outfit feel happier! A few favorites in my current rotation include these, these and these
  • Chic flats - Whether you're after all day walkability or something stylish a pair of loafers, ballet flats or chic sneakers (yes they exist!) will get you through the next month with ease.
