What to Wear for the Last Glorious Month of Summer

August is one of my favorite months to dress for—the days are still warm and sun-soaked, but there’s a subtle shift in the air that makes me excited for the season ahead. I’m reaching for pieces that are perfect for every bit of late-summer fun, from beach days and dinners outside to sailing and weekend getaways, while still offering a little nod to fall through thoughtful textures, versatile layers, and colors that will carry beautifully into September. From breezy dresses and wrap skirts to lightweight knits, cropped trousers, and woven accessories, these are the pieces I’m most excited to wear now—and style in new ways when the first cooler days arrive.

  • The scalloped trim on this green cotton knit tank and pleated knit skirt and flat sandals now; the set transitions beautifully into fall with a blazer and boots.
  • The golden hour hues of this dress are just right for August, especially when paired with these chocolate raffia heels.
  • This olive linen dress is just the thing to wear on hot August days. Pair with these suede wrap sandals and a fun straw bag at a great price.
  • For a piece that does triple duty, this silk pareo can be worn as a skirt, dress, or wrap. The blue and red stripe feels perfectly Mediterranean for beach days through sunset cocktails, and I love the matching cotton bucket bag paired with it.
  • A neutral cotton maxi skirt is one of those pieces you'll wear more than you think. The flared silhouette is so flattering, I own it in 3 colors. Pair with a crochet top now (like so), and a cozy sweater when temperatures drop.
  • This raffia tote was such a splurge, but I'm totally obsessed. I just found it deeply discounted for those of you who love it just as much as I do! (That site is amazing FYI, you can find designer European brands for 20-40% off, I've ordered from them several times and highly recommend for saving on splurgy items! Search for your favorite designer brand and see what pops up. I have my eye on this and this for fall.
  • The subtle kick-flare of these cropped pants (15% off with STACIE15) is incredibly flattering. I own them in an old pattern and love pairing them with a white linen button-down and flat sandals in summer, and will swap in a chunky sweater come September.
  • Wrap skirts are the definition of easy summer dressing and I've been wearing this linen skirt with everything from a swimsuit to a refined tee.
  • Few things feel more summer than a striped linen midi dress (on major sale)! This one has the most gorgeous multicolor stripes that transition easily through the seasons. I bought it for a trip to Palm Beach in March worn with this white bag (seen here), and will be enjoying this dress well into September with olive, burgundy and cognac accessories. (I wear a size 40 in this brand.)
  • This navy silk slip dress has glamorous 90s energy, and I always pair it with this cashmere sweater tied over my shoulders and not-your-mother's tennis bracelet. The definition of timeless!
  • Perfect for late summer into fall, this Breton stripe boatneck top has the best weight to it. Heavier than a tee but lighter than a sweatshirt, it's ideal with jeans, shorts, or a midi skirt. I've been wearing mine while out sailing, it's perfect tied at the waist then I pop it on when a chilly breeze picks up.
  • This sunshine yellow embroidered dress (on sale!) was one of my favorite pieces from our trip to Italy. (Photos here!) The bustier bodice and geometric beading feel so special for a summer dinner or garden party with strappy sandals.
  • I love the clever sarong-meets-shirt design of this red striped linen shirt dress. Wear it loose and relaxed with flat sandals or cinch the tie for a more defined silhouette. It's an investment, but just one of those pieces that feels so good on, and you can wear it to dinners, church and everything in between.
  • Treat yourself to these striped linen pajamas (seen here) for the most luxurious end-of-summer getaways or evenings at home. The contrast piping is such a beautiful touch, and the fit is perfectly relaxed.
  • Nothing says nautical summer like this navy eyelet halter dress with gold knot buttons. The trapeze-shape skirt is so flattering.
  • I've been reaching for this chambray dress constantly. The romantic balloon sleeves and tie belt make it so flattering. Works for errands with sneakers or dinner with statement sandals or a woven leather heel (on sale with "NMJULY".)
  • The geometric threadwork on this ivory top is absolutely stunning up close. Pair with jeans or the coordinating skirt and woven clutch for end-of-summer dinner parties.
